Hoo boy. I read a lot of books. Not surprising I guess, considering that we have a lot of books in the house -- besides all the bookswe read for fun, I have quite a few Japanese dictionaries and grammar books as a result of Japanese language study. Add in technical books and loadsof comics and manga and you're talking quite a lot of printed matter.

English

Some links to pages about some authors whose works I've enjoyed:

Jane Austen
Emma Bull
Lindsay Davis
Dashiell Hammett
John le Carre
Sujata Massey
Will Shetterly
JRR Tolkien
Mark Twain
Roger Zelazny
I like to read comics in english as well as japanese (although I don't read translated manga since the point for me is Japanese language practice, after all).

Here are a few links:

Sarah Dyer (action girl)
Carla Speed McNeil (finder)
Stan Sakai (usagi yojimbo)
Elizabeth Watasin (charm school)

I also recommend checking out Image Comics, Oni Press, and Slave Labor Graphics.

And definitely go read Megatokyo. It's great!

Japanese

Mostly I have been reading manga.

I am also reading "bokkochan" by HOSHI Shinichi. This is a collection of short science fiction stories that are... odd, yet really compelling.
If you can find an English translation of this book, I recommend it.
